Saelyn Guyton 1 small

Saelyn Guyton Quartet

Saelyn has been on musical journey since she was a child. She begain singing country music at the age of eight continuing on to win New Zealand Entertainer of the Year title in 1999 and 2003. She has appeared on pop music television shows including NZ Idol in 2005, which lead to the opportunity to make a living from music so she left her home town of Invercargill for Christchurch where she joined a popular covers band singing everything from R & B to rock.

She attended the New Zealand School of Music in 2008, studying jazz before returning home to Invercargill last year with a new inspiration for musical creation.

Having been away from the country music scene for a few years, Saelyn entered the 2009 NZ Gold Guitars and placed runner up overall, this was an opportunity to get back to her roots while bringing her own interpretation of country music to the stage. She won five section titles at the 2010 NZ Gold Guitars including the overall senior winner.

She switched flavours and entered her first jazz competition last year, gaining first place at the Queenstown Jazz Festival’s Emerging Talent Vocal section.

Based in Invercargill Saelyn is keeping the music fresh and grooving, performing in a popular covers duo, an acoustic jazz duo, a reggae band and a blues/rock band and an originals band which will open for Katchafire later this year.

Whatever genre she sings, Saelyn brings her high energy performance and vocal diversity to the stage and this year she is pleased to be invited back to perform at the ASB Queenstown Jazzfest with talented musicians Harry Mahia, Chris Chilton and Matt Ward.
