Rhythmic Verve by Shannon Novak

New Zealand artist Shannon Novak has developed a site-specific installation for the Queenstown JazzFest 2011 titled Rhythmic Verve. The work exploring the rhythmic qualities of Swing through colour and shape will be on display during the five days of festival. Rhythmic Verve captures this idea using colour and form on a large pyramid to represent this rhythmic essence of Swing. Each face of the pyramid uses a different colour scheme, each scheme representing the varying emotional states each musician moves through as they perform. Each face links to the next through colour just as one emotion links to the next through an emotional transition. The work has been designed to integrate harmoniously into the surrounding landscape whilst the bold use of colour aims to both energise and enrich the visitors’ experience of this outdoor space.
