Queenstown Jazzfest is locking in a long list of performers – including soulful Brazilian singer and songwriter Marku Ribas.
Mixing Brazilian beats with jazz, samba and funk, the South American star is one of the biggest draw-cards for the 32nd annual event running from October 21 – 25 during Labour Weekend.
Ribas – now in his sixties – will be sharing his rich sounds at a ticketed event at Millbrook’s The Millhouse on Saturday, October 23 from 8pm.
Jazzfest chairman Luke Baldock says attracting an artist of Ribas’ calibre is a sign of the longevity of the festival and a close relationship with Live Brazil in Wellington, which draws international musicians.
"Marku Ribas, I mean he’s definitely revered in his homeland and so being able to bring him and put him in such an intimate concert will be special," Baldock says.
This year’s Jazzfest has a new events maestro at the helm, with Winter Festival boss Simon Green appointed director of the musical extravaganza back in July.
The ASB Queenstown JazzFest is Queenstown’s major springtime event. It brings music to the masses in a 5-day live music celebration from 21 to 25 October.
The 32nd annual jazz festival has a sensational line-up of more than 50 bands and 150 Kiwi and international performers.
