Nigel Gavin and Richard Adams

Nigel Gavin hails from Long Island, New York and is now based in Auckland.

He joined the circus at a young age and through contacts with performers, started working as a roadie for bands in California, which is how his impressive musical career developed.

Since then he’s toured regularly three or four times a year around New Zealand, as well as in Australia, America and Europe, most notably with the Jews Brothers, Bravura and Whirimako Black, and plays the bass, guitar, banjo and mandolin. He took on the challenge of playing the 7-string solo acoustic guitar, released two solo CDs and an in-concert DVD produced by Costa Botes of Forgotten Silver.

In June this year, he released an 11-track album, Recent Works, with violinist Richard Adams, his long-term band mate from New Zealand’s premiere jazz ensemble Nairobi Trio. The music crosses the boundaries of jazz, classical, and gypsy folk to create a unique but coherent sound.

Richard Adams is a jazz violinist (best known as the front man for the quartet Nairobi Trio) and professional abstract artist. His infusion of art with music makes him a captivating musician.

Musically, Richard received critical acclaim with Neon Quaver and with his own Richard Adams Quartet and had the opportunity to play with legendary flautist Paul Horn at the Wellington International Arts Festival.
