2014 winner of Australia’s top music honour The Don Banks Prize, pianist-composer Mike Nock has been a leading figure on the Australasian music scene for more than 50 years.
Since his first recordings with the Three-out Trio in 1960-61, Pianist/composer Mike Nock has remained at the forefront of Australasian Jazz, continuing to attract critical acclaim and delight audiences worldwide.
Recording his first albums in 1960-61 with the Three Out he went on to spend 25 years in the USA working with many jazz greats, including Coleman Hawkins, Art Blakey, Yusef Lateef, Tony Williamsm, etc. His group The Fourth Way (1968-71) first won him international recognition, launching his music on the world stage.
Currently based in Sydney he continues to tour widely. Mike’s trio with bassist Brett Hirst and drummer James Waples are regarded as one of the top modern jazz groups in Australasia. Both musicians have played with Mike for several years and are featured on many of Mike’s award-winning CDs. Very much in demand with other top groups they bring a wealth of contemporary experience to Mike’s music.
Mike will be playing one concert at the 2014 Queenstown JazzFest. You can see the Mike Nock Trio at the Queenstown Memorial Centre on Friday 24th October. |
