Mark LockettBorn in Wellington, New Zealand, Mark Lockett is a renowned up-beat drummer who now resides in Australia and plays with some of Melbourne’s finest jazz musicians. Some of his regular guest artists have been Michelle Nicole, Emma Gilmartin, Alison Wedding, Geoff Hughes, Tim Stevens, Mark Fitzgibbon and Jamie Oehlers (winner of the 2003 Montreux Jazz festival saxophone competition). Having graduated from Massey University in 2001 with a bachelor’s degree in jazz performance, he is currently studying drums with international performer and educator, Graham Morgan. Mark is the author of the drum method book ‘Drum Recipe’ and in 2004 he released his debut CD ‘About Time’ on Move Records, featuring special arrangements by Jordan Murray and Eugene Ball, and musicians including Mark Fitzgibbon, Jordan Murray, Jamie Oehlers, Paul Van Ross and Alison Wedding. In 2005, Mark released his second album, a joint project with saxophonist and musical collaborator Paul Van Ross, who he will be playing alongside at ASB Jazzfest in 2009. The album, titled ‘Mark Lockett & Paul Van Ross Live at Spleen’, features the highlights of their regular weekly gigs at Spleen Bar. |
