Les Richardson Dixie Band

The group was formed by veteran jazz pianist, Les Richardson, about 16 years ago and operates mainly in the Central Otago/Lakes District with occasional sorties further afield. The band ranges from duo to septet with the full band line-up being: keyboard, double bass, drums, guitar, saxophone, trumpet & trombone. Jazz violin & flute can also be incorporated. In addition, there are several female jazz vocalists that we are associated with and can incorporate when the occasion arises. The “Dixieland” band plays for jazz festivals, wine & food festivals, street parties, race meetings and even birthdays & funerals. A smaller combo is used for weddings, restaurants, etc. while Les does solo piano for cocktail parties & whatever! The music is basically jazz standards from 1920’s to 1950’s as well as more recent latin rhythms & a touch of gypsy jazz.
