King Leo and the Growling Dogs

King Leo and The Growling Dogs is a four piece blues band based in Dunedin. They deliver a serious uptown blues sound that has won them many fans over the last few years. 

Leo LaDell (aka King Leo) is from the USA and has been playing blues professionally for 20 years. He moved to New Zealand in 2004 and formed The Growling Dogs (Paul Southworth, Rob Falconer, and Anders Jensen) to produce the definitive blues sound he was looking for.

Leo has sung, played guitar and the harmonica with some of the blues greats including Pinetop Perkins (of the Muddy Waters band), Big Bill Morganfield (Muddy Waters' son), Bo Diddley and Cajun legend Doug Kershaw.

He is well-versed in the styles of his influences, including Chicago artists Muddy Waters and Little Walter, Louisiana greats Eddie "Guitar Slim" Jones and Slim Harpo, and Memphis legends B.B. King, Little Milton and Bobby "Blue" Bland.
