Batucada Sound Machine

Loosely translated, 'batucada' means percussive samba jam, which aptly summarises Batucada Sound Machine's musical roots.

Expect their high energy gig to provide a concoction of Brazilian, Cuban, reggae and funk flavours and Afrobeat rhythms with a hip-hop front.

Batucada Sound Machine is renowned for its rhythm fusion and blistering live performances at festivals worldwide, and has played alongside global heavyweights such as Damien Marley, Michael Franti and The Cat Empire.

Started by five passionate drummers in Auckland in 2003, the 13-member group has grown from its percussive samba-jam origins to embrace Pacific soul, reggae, funk, dance and hip hop.

Batucada Sound Machine's debut album Rhythm and Rhyme was mixed by Lawrence Manchester at the legendary Avatar Studios in New York.  Featuring a guest appearance by Che-Fu, the album is an infectious mix of driving Brazilian rhythms, funk-style guitar licks and dub horns which swing from pure dance-floor afro-beat to funk, hip-hop and deep samba-reggae.
