Concert Series - Hetty Kate (AUS) and the Queenstown Jazz Orchestra25 October 2015 7:00pm - 9:30pmQueenstown Memorial Centre
This fantastic concert will showcase music from the big band era of the 40's featuring standards made famous by Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, and many others through to more modern renditions including arrangements for Michael Buble, Billy Joel, and others.
Joining the Queenstown Jazz Orchestra for this performance is Melbourne vocalist Hetty Kate, a rising star on the international jazz scene and special guest Roger Manins, one of Australasia’s foremost saxophonists.
Hetty Kate is one of jazz luminary James Morrison’s favourite singers, and has graced stages at festivals around the world. She has a classic sound reminiscent of the vocalists from the 1940s and 50s, and is often compared to a young Peggy Lee or Doris Day. Known for her pure tone, diction and swing, as well an effortless ease on stage, Hetty has fast become one of the most sought after jazz vocalists in Australia.
The Queenstown Jazz Orchestra will have all chairs filled with the best local jazz musicians and will be directed by guest conductor American trombonist Bruce Paulson. Now based in Wanaka, Bruce is a 20-year veteran of the Tonight Show band and has outstanding jazz pedigree.
This will be Jazz on the grandest of scales!
