2010 ASB Queenstown Jazzfest
Trustees of the ASB Queenstown Jazzfest are pleased to announce the appointment of Simon Green as the Event Manager for this year’s Festival.
Trust Chairman Luke Baldock says that “after a number of years with trustees managing and producing the event it was time to engage the skills and experience of a professional event manager and we are thrilled to have secured someone as talented as Simon Green for the role.”
“Green will continue in his role as director of the American Express Queenstown Winter Festival and there are great synergies between the two events that we are sure will benefit all concerned”, adds Baldock.
With the continued support of ASB, the focus for the trust this year is to build on the successes of 2009 and to rationalize the programme of events in order to establish a strong platform leading into 2011 when the Jazzfest dates will coincide with the end of the Rugby World Cup.
“The establishment of the competitive and development programmes in 2009 is something we definitely want to build on”, says Baldock. And it is envisaged that even more aspiring jazz musicians from around New Zealand will travel to this year’s festival to showcase and further develop their musicianship.
The big change to the 2010 event is a condensing of the Festival to concentrate on the 5 days of Labour Weekend. “We’ve always staged our major events during Labour Weekend and will still be bringing to town a similar number of bands and entertainers. We’re also working on producing more ticketed events during these five days and building on the successful introduction of the community stages which added a great new dimension to the Festival” adds Baldock.
Festival Trustees are also pleased to announce the addition of two new trustees with James Denniston and Margaret O’Hanlon joining the team and wish to extend a huge thank you to outgoing trustee Peter Howe.
Dates for the 2010 Festival are Thursday October 21st to Monday October 25th. The Jumpstart Youth competition will commence on July 19th.
