Queenstown Jazz OrchestraBig Band Jazz & Swing
Three years ago, a group of Jazz musicians from throughout the region have come together to form a band that encompasses the Big Band era of the 1940’s up to the modern big band sounds. The orchestra's members come from throughout Otago and as far afield as New York. The Queenstown Jazz Orchestra plays a wide range of big band style tunes from Glenn Miller, Buddy Rich, Frank Sinatra and Count Basie through to Michael Bubble and Chicago.
The first big band in the Wakatipu and the only ensemble in the Southern Lakes, Central Otago and Southland, the 18 piece band are passionate about jazz and feature at many high profile events - both corporate and community. This is the first big band to be formed in Queenstown and since forming, they have played at many major events including the Queenstown Jazz Festival, Queenstown Winter Festivals, Arrowtown 150 Celebrations and will be the feature act at this year’s Alexandra Blossom Festival.
