Karin Reid

Karin Reid is a Dunedin jazz vocalist who takes her inspiration from greats such as, Ella Fitzgerald, Anita O'day, Billie Holiday, Nina Simone and Joni Mitchell to sing a variety of songs from the ages of swing, bebop and cool jazz. She is noted for the hypnotising notes of her "sultry voice”, her deep vocal tones expressing the darker "noir" side of the jazz tradition.

 

Karin has organised a number of residencies in bars, independent events and cabaret performances around Dunedin playing with a variety of jazz musicians including, Trevor Coleman, Nick Cornish, Bill Martin, Calder Prescott, Nathan Berg, Craig Sinclair and Edwina Thorne. Highlights include performing at the 2014 Queenstown JazzFest and 2012 Dunedin Arts Festival.

 

Involved in the performing arts scene in New Zealand since moving to Dunedin from the UK in 1995. Karin has experience as an actor, tutor, arts administrator, festival coordinator, maker of cabaret and theatre, and producer and publicist. She is artistic director of independent Dunedin-based performing arts initiative, Ad Hoc Productions she founded in 2011, and Chair of the Dunedin Jazz, Cabaret & Performing Arts Charitable Trust set up in 2015. 

 

Karin will be performing as a duo with pianist Bill Martin and with the Coleman, Cornish Craigie Trio.
