Dixon Nacey

Jazz Guitarist

Dixon Nacey joins us for the first time at the Queenstown JazzFest to perform in concert alongside legendary American bassist David Friesen as part of his New Zealand Trio.

Dixon’s 20 year performance career has seen him perform with some of New Zealand’s top jazz & pop musicians as a sideman, leader and musical director. His guitar can be heard on a variety of albums and he regularly hosts guitar workshops throughout the country. Notable pop and jazz artists he has been fortunate enough to perform with include Nathan Haines, King Kapisi, Tama Waipara, Annie Crummer, Whirimako Black, Caitlin Smith, Roger Manins, Michel Benebig (New Caledonia) and Tim Hopkins.

He has recorded and released three jazz albums (in 2008, 2011 and 2013) with the ‘Samsom Nacey Haines Trio’, the first of which was a finalist in the 2009 Jazz Tui of The Year Award. He also leads his own jazz combos, manages and performs with ‘The Kingpins’ corporate band, plays a covers band circuit with ‘Black Salt’ and has recently been through USA, Canada, New Caledonia, Singapore, The Cook Islands and Thailand with his music.

Dixon currently teaches guitar and takes ensembles at Auckland University. As a music teacher he has built a large following online through his YouTube channel which led to the development and launch of what has become a very successful video tutorial based Jazz Guitar website.
